
The former governor of old Kaduna state and one of the Northern region prominent politician, Alhaji Lawal Kaita, is dead.
Late Kaita died on Tuesday evening at the Turkish Hospital in Abuja, after a protracted illness.
A family source who pleaded anonymity said that the elder statesman had been battling with his health.
Kaita who defeated the ruling Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in the 1983 election under the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) was regarded as a consummate politician.
As at the time of filing this report, preparations are on top gear to convey his corpse to his home state Katsina for burial.
