Ex-gov Yari backs Matawalle’s planned defection to APC

Former governor of Zamfara State and leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, Abdul-azeez Yari, has said he is backing the reported plan by the state governor, Bello Matawalle’s planned defection to the APC today (Tuesday).

Speaking at the stakeholders meeting of the party at Arewa House in Kaduna on Monday, Yari said the party welcomes Matawalle into its fold.

But he was quick to add that the party is still holding meetings with major stakeholders from the 14 local government areas of the state on how their supporters will be treated fairly if he finally defects.

According to him, as a party loyalist, he and his supporters have accepted the circumstances they found themselves in good faith.

“We will not take any position without our people’s consent, that is why we invited them for this stakeholders meeting so that we take a decisive and definite stand on the future of the party .

“We will not decide on anything that will not be of benefit to the party as well as the state. We agreed that the governor is coming with authority while we have the population in the state.

“So we hope and pray that his coming to the part will be beneficial and will add value to the party in the state. So, he is welcome,” he said.
