The ex-convict, who was docked before Magistrate O. A Oloyade pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of stealing.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Oladoye Joshua informed the court that the convict committed the offence on the 4th of May, 2018 4 at about 6.00pm around Onward area of Osogbo.
He recalled that the convict had been convicted severally and jailed for offences bothering on stealing before he went to the shop of the complainant, Mrs Adeleke Adenle with the pretence to buy sewing materials.
According to Oladunjoye, Akanmu made away with one Techno W3 phone and a cash sum of N50,000 when he discovered that the complainant was busy attending to other customers inside her shop, pointing out that the convict was later apprehended through the person that he subsequently sold the phone too.

After tendering the phone and the statement of the convict as exhibits before the court, he emphasised that the offence of stealing was contrary to Section 383 (1)and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 11, Laws of Osun State 2002.
Though the convict who had no legal representation pleaded for the court’s mercy, Magistrate Oloyade convicted him on one count charge of stealing and sentenced him to three years in jail with hard labour, submitting that Akanmu was not ready to turn over a new leaf.
