Ethnic hatred cause of underdevelopment in Niger Delta ―Mulade

Published by

A Niger Delta-based Human Rights Activist and environmentalist, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, has identified ethnic hatred as one of the main causes of underdevelopment affecting the Niger Delta region.

He equally expressed total displeasure towards some leaders who whip up sentiments whenever they are in a position or seeking something from the government of the day, saying “this is laying the wrong precedence for the next generation”.

Comrade Mulade, a House of Assembly hopeful for Warri South-West constituency in Delta State, noted that “It is worthy of note that today our leaders have sold into the next generation attitude of ethnic hatred, divisive and suspicious that will take over four to five decades to erase from the minds of the youths”.

The environmentalist disclosed that if nothing was done to carry out massive advocacy to change the mindset of people in the area, it might affect the unity of the next generation.

He appealed to leaders and major stakeholders in the region to begin what he described as inter-ethnic peaceful coexistence in Nigeria in order to attract the needed development to Niger Delta.

He added that it was unfortunate that because of ethnic sentiments and hatred which have eaten deep into the minds of the people, they no longer have the value for human lives which, according to him, is the greatest asset of the people of the region.
