Two people reportedly died and another is in critical condition after an escort vehicle in an auto crash crushed them to death along the Ondo/Akure road.

The three individuals were on a motorcycle returning from church when the incident occurred around the Elemosho area of Bolorunduro, in Ondo East local government area of the state.

It was gathered that a policeman and other occupants of the escort vehicle immediately fled the scene after the crash, fearing mob action.

The crash involved a motorcycle marked NND 218OC and an unregistered Toyota Hilux.

According to an eyewitness, the two victims and the injured person were returning from church when they met their untimely deaths.

He said the motorcyclist was speeding and overtook a car coming from Akure while facing the Hilux heading to Abuja, resulting in the deaths of two occupants of the motorcycle.

He stated that the accident was caused by the overspeeding of both drivers, adding that the driver of the vehicle had no option but to run over the motorcycle carrying two people, including a woman.

“The driver of the ill-fated motorcycle, while speeding, suddenly overtook the car and hit the vehicle, leaving two persons dead and one other seriously injured.

“Upon noticing the accident, the driver of the Hilux, a policeman, and some of its occupants fled the scene, leaving one person with injured legs by the roadside.

“Two of the three persons on the motorcycle, suspected to be coming from church, died on the spot, while the other was unconscious.”

He disclosed that the corpses of the victims have been deposited at the morgue, while the injured victim was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Officials from the FRSC and the police spokesperson could not be reached for comments.
