Equities market compresses further as investors lose N57bn

Equities transactions on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) resumed the week and the month of August on a negative note as investors recorded a loss of N57 billion on the first trading day of the month. Market Capitalisation closed the day at N9.562 trillion against its opening figure of  N9.619 trillion.

The NSE All-Share Index (ASI) closed the day at 27,843 basis points 0.60 percent down from its opening index of 28,009.93 basis points.

Topping the day’s losers was Oando Plc as it dropped 9.46 per cent or 53 kobo to close at N5.07 per share;  followed by Transcorp Plc which shed 9.16 percent or 12 kobo to close at N1.19 per share. PZ Cussons Plc closed at N17.60 per share having lost 5.38 percent or one naira; Cutix Plc closed at N1.52 per share following a loss of 5 percent or 8 kobo ; while Dangote Sugar Plc lost 5 per cent or 35 kobo to close at  N6.65 per share.

On the flip side, Total Oil Plc led the day’s stock gainers as a result of a declaration of N3 interim dividend declared to close at N200.09 having appreciated by 10.24 percent or N18.59 per share; Airservice Plc rose 9.41 per cent or 16 kobo to close at N1.86 per share; Flourmills Nigeria Plc added 6.44 per cent or N1.30 to close at N21.50; Dangote Flour gathered 5.38 per cent or 25 kobo to close at N4.90 per share.
