THE Leadership of Trade Union Congress (TUC) Enugu State Chapter has lauded Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s over regular payment of workers’ salaries, describing him as a governor that runs an open door policy.
Chukwuma Igbokwe Chukwuma, Chairman of the Congress who made this known in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday, said that it is because Ugwuanyi is running an open door policy that it has been difficult for workers to go on strike.
“Nobody enjoys strike. Why we are running the way we do is that the governor is running an open door policy,” Igbokwe said.
The TUC boss said that there are demands coming from every quarters, the judiciary, teachers, etc but that Gov. Ugwuanyi has a way of handling the demands.
Igbokwe explained that whenever the labour has an issue with the government, Gov. Ugwuanyi invites them and everything is put on the table, pointing out that he tells the workers the allocation that accrues to the state and the wage bill and it is discussed to the satisfaction of all.
Commending Ugwuanyi, Igbokwe said he is performing wonders in paying the civil servants regularly, saying that Enugu State has the highest number of civil servants in the Southeast zone yet they are being paid regularly.
“Enugu State has the highest workforce.  The teachers in Enugu State are more than all the civil servants in Ebonyi State,” the TUC boss disclosed pointing out that Enugu has over 23,000 workforces apart from the parastatals.
Igbokwe was full of words of commendation for Ugwuanyi whom he said managed the bailout funds judiciously and noted that the Paris Club refund would be handled in the same manner to settle the local government workers arrears of salaries and pensions.
On national issues, Igbokwe said that the fight against corruption in Nigeria is a herculean one “because as you fight corruption, corruption will fight back.
Asked why the presidency would submit Magu’s name to the Senate after they had turned him down the first time, Igbokwe said that Buhari had confidence in Magu that he is capable of fighting corruption the way he wants.
