A Nigeria-based renewable energy expert, Emmanuel Dahunsi, has been honored with the prestigious Nelson Mandela Leadership Award of Excellence and Integrity and appointed as ECOWAS Youth Ambassador by the West African Youth Council (WAYC).
The Nelson Mandela Leadership Award, named after the legendary South African leader, recognizes individuals who demonstrate exemplary leadership qualities and a commitment to integrity and social justice. The award ceremony, held recently at the University of Ibadan, is a testament to Dahunsi’s tireless efforts in supporting young people.
The West African Youth Council (WAYC), headquartered in Cape Verde, provides a platform for youth participation in politics, socio-economic activities, and governance in West Africa. WAYC’s objective is to promote youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and leadership development in the region.

In his acceptance speech, Dahunsi, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Cigna Reliance Investments Limited, delivered an inspiring address, highlighting his vision and commitment to youth development.
He said, “As ECOWAS Youth Ambassador, I will dedicate myself to empowering young people across West Africa, amplifying their voices, and fostering a spirit of unity, solidarity, peace, and development.
“I look forward to establishing partnerships with organizations, governments, and stakeholders to create opportunities for capacity building, skills development, and resource sharing,” he concluded.
Additionally, in his bid to promote youth development, Dahunsi established the Business Class Initiative Forum, which brings young Nigerians together to build their interests and capacity in business establishment and management.
