Kwara State commissioner of Police, Mr Tuesday Assayomo, on Wednesday, said that a meeting earlier held with some organisers of the #EndSARS protest made the planned protest not to hold in the state on Wednesday.
Tribune Online gathered that despite the agreement said to have been reached between organisers of the #EndSARS protest and the state command of Police not to hold any protest, major spots in the Ilorin metropolis were on Wednesday manned by security operatives such as the Army, Police, NSCDC and the DSS to apparently prevent a breach of peace.
It was gathered that law enforcement agents were seen in their security vans at such places as the popular Post Office, Gerin Alimi, Challenge and Offa Garage, among other places, to maintain law and order.
Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Okasanmi Ajayi, said that the state Police commissioner met with some proponents of the #EndSARS protest, adding that, “We reached an agreement with them that there will be no problem.
“The command advises people to always maintain the law. Kwara is known for peace and harmony. So, we advise people to always shelve anything that would cause a breach of peace. Parents and guardians are also advised to warn their children and wards not to be lured into any protest that may have a bad end. Bad end in terms of injury, arrest and rest of them. They should all be guided. We are all aware of what happened in 2020 when so many lives were lost and property, both public and private, were destroyed. So, we would not want a repeat of that. We should not join bad people to destroy the peace of the state.”
