The Chairman of the West Africa Youth Fellowship and convener of the West Africa Youth Summit, Emmanuel Agida, during the week, led a delegation of his executives on a courtesy visit to the Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Goronyo.
The delegation was received and welcomed at the Federal Ministry of State for Water Resources and Sanitation by the Honorable Minister and members of his staff.
The purpose for the meeting was to discuss a collaboration between the youth organisation and the Honorable Minister on Sustainable Development and Youth Development geared towards the Extraordinary Summit of West Africa Youth on Sustainable Development known for short as the West Africa Youth Summit.
The Minister, who received the youth delegation, assured them of his continued support towards youth development. The major highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the official invitation to the Honorable Minister as a keynote speaker at the West Africa Youth Summit.
The Honorable Minister is expected to mentor and inspire young people at the Summit. The Sokoto-born political leader, accomplished lawyer and politician has a track record of excellence having served in different capacities as a former commissioner and Honorable Member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly respectively.
The Minister lauded the efforts of Emmanuel Agida stating that Nigeria will be a better place if we have more passionate young people like him pursuing the sustainable development goal agenda.
Prior to this, Agida had through his philanthropy organisation, pursued the sustainable development goals 1 and 2. Sometimes in March, the young champ visited IDP camps in Benue State where he distributed food items and educational materials to displaced families. Through the foundation, he has pursued SDG 3 on Quality Education by granting scholarships to indigent students in his local community in Benue State.
The Lagos State University and the West Africa Youth Fellowship will partner to host the West Africa Youth Summit to on the 25th of October at the Main Auditorium, LASU. This year edition of the summit is themed: “Co-Creating Sustainability: A Cross-Sector of Youth Participation in Driving Sustainable Development” is dedicated to fostering discussions addressing the socio-economic and political challenges facing West Africa, with a focus on investing in the next generation of emerging leaders from the region. Over 1000 young leaders from across West Africa will convene at the Lagos State University for this prestigious event.
The West Africa Youth Summit is projected to be the largest gathering of young change-makers to discuss sustainable development and the effectual harnessing of their potential to achieve the Agenda 2030 of the United Nations on sustainable development.
