Alhaji Bala Mohammed has been appointed and sworn in as the 9th Sarkin Alkaleri, succeeding his late father, Mohammed Abdulkadir, who passed away a few months ago.
The ceremony, held inside the Chambers of the Palace of the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, was a grand display of tradition and reverence, as the Emir presided over the swearing-in.
While addressing the gathering immediately after the ceremony at his palace, the Emir of Bauchi urged the new monarch to uphold the values of tolerance, mutual understanding, and fairness in his leadership.
Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu stressed that these virtues are vital for peace and progress within the emirate.
Following the formal rites, the new Sarkin Alkaleri was escorted in a majestic procession to his palace in Alkaleri Town, about 60 km away from Bauchi, the state capital.
The colourful ceremony in Alkaleri drew dignitaries, traditional title holders, and jubilant subjects from far and near.

There, the official handing over of the royal mace was performed, symbolising the transfer of authority.
The new monarch also received greetings and pledges of loyalty from village heads and other traditional leaders from across the emirate.
Dozens of well-wishers gathered at the Emir’s palace in Bauchi for the historic turbaning ceremony of the new leader, who, until his turbaning on Wednesday, had served with distinction in the Nigeria Customs Service, rising to the rank of Controller.
Top government functionaries, politicians, traditional title holders, and key stakeholders attended the ceremony, underscoring its significance.
The presence of these dignitaries highlighted the importance of the Sarkin Alkaleri position in Bauchi’s traditional hierarchy.
Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor of Bauchi State, Comrade Muktar Muhammad Giɗaɗo — a younger brother to the new Sarkin Alkaleri — was also present during the ceremony, reflecting the government’s interest in the traditional event.
