The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele has emerged the Guardian Economic Personality of the year 2017.
At the award ceremony held in Lagos on Saturday, the management of Guardian lauded the awardee, stressing that since becoming Governor of the CBN, Mr Emefiele has vigorously pursued his vision of financial system stability and development financing.
This, the organisers said, is in view of his strong belief that central banks in developing countries cannot afford to sit idly by and concentrate only on price and monetary stability, given the enormity of their development challenges.
He has tackled the effect of the significant drop in commodity prices, the end of the United States Fed’s Quantitative Easing programme, the peaceful electioneering of Nigeria’s 2015 General Elections and smooth transition of political power, the unwinding of unconventional Monetary Policies by the United States Federal Reserve and and other major central banks around the world among other achievements, organisers said.
