The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone Eleven of the Nigeria Police Force, Fred Emuobo Ekokotu, assumed duty on Monday at the headquarters in Osogbo, Osun State.
An indigene of Oghara Agbarha-Otor in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State, Ekokotu is the 34th AIG to take charge of the zonal command’s administration.
The Zonal Public Relations Officer, ASP Ade Ogunyemi, in a statement, disclosed that the AIG, who graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1990 with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Agric Economics, got enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.
AIG Ekokotu began his service in Oyo State where he held various key positions in many Divisions and at the state headquarters, including his posting as a Patrol and Guard (P&G) at Challenge Division in Ibadan.
His dedication, hard work, and loyalty to work were said to have attracted the state government which led to his being drafted to its anti-graft body codenamed Operation Gbale.
Rising through the ranks of ASP to CSP, his posts and appointments included Divisional Police Officer in charge of Oluyole, Ashi, Moniya, Mapo, Ogbere, Agugu, and Iyaganku Divisions, among others.
He was posted to Ogun State where he served as DPO Abigi, Odogbolu, Adigbe, Odeda, Lafenwa, Ajuwon and Ayetoro Divisions.
He touched lives and left a life-lasting impact on the security of lives and properties.
He was also in Port Harcourt, Rivers State where he served as the DPO, Olu Obasanjo and Akinimu Divisions.
On his promotion to Assistant Commissioner of Police, he became the second-in-command at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran Abeokuta, and Assistant Commissioner, Administration (ACA) in Kaduna Command between December 2014 and October 2016.
He was the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration in Oyo Police Command in December 2018 when he got his promotion to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police.
AIG Ekokotu served as Deputy Commissioner in charge of Administration, Enugu State Command from 2019 to April 2021; DC Administration, Airwing Command, Ebute Meta, Lagos; and DC SCID, Jos, where he contributed his quota to solving many high-profile cases.
He was promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police and posted as CP Railway Command, Lagos, and later, CP Administration, Nigeria Air Wing, Force Headquarters, Abuja, in July 2023.
His commitment to duty, dedication, and hard work reportedly earned him the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police in December 2024.
He was thereafter posted as AIG Investment (DLS), Force Headquarters, before his deployment to Zone Eleven.
AIG Ekokotu has attended various developmental and capacity-building courses both nationally and internationally in Abuja, Kenya, Uganda, and Ecuador in South America.
He is happily married with children.
