Leaders and members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti state have promised to resolve all internal wrangling towards having successful ward, local government, and state congresses of the party.
The stakeholders met in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Thursday following the recent postponement of the scheduled congresses of the party.
The meeting was attended by leaders including the caretaker committee under the chairmanship of Chief Dare Adeleke; former state chairmen, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, Gboyega Oguntuase, and former deputy governorship candidate, Deji Ogunsakin.
Others included Senator Duro Faseyi, governorship aspirants Dr Wole Oluyede, Mrs Funmilayo Ogun, and Mr. Emmanuel Fayose, among other leaders and members across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking, the chairman of the caretaker committee, Adeleke, said the stakeholders’ meeting was convened to further work towards ensuring peace and stability in the state chapter of the PDP.
He added that in order to achieve rancour-free congresses, there is a need to engage the stakeholders in the party on the need to consider the party’s interest and survival above personal ambitions.
Adeleke expressed optimism that the PDP would bounce back stronger and better to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2026 governorship election.
According to him, “As a matter of fact, we need unity and sincere cohesion as we prepare for the congresses. You are aware we were supposed to have held the exercise two weeks ago but postponed due to the crisis at the national headquarters of the party.”
On the alleged anti-party activities of prominent members and leaders of the party, the chairman said, “We are aware that some people want to be in two places at the same time, including prominent leaders. We are going to sanction them any moment from now.
“Anyone working against the interest of the PDP in Ekiti, irrespective of their status, we won’t spare them. We will ensure discipline in the party.”
On his part, Oluyede said members and leaders of the party would remain committed to the peace and unity of the PDP, adding that the people of the state are desirous of the opposition party in government.
The trained medical doctor said, “Politics is about disagreement and realignment towards moving forward, and we are resolving the issues in Ekiti PDP. We are working every day, and I can say that PDP is more popular in Ekiti state.
“In the record of Ekiti, the PDP has contributed to the development of the state, and we are hopeful for a better state. We will work together for us to win the next governorship election, because the APC government has failed the people.”
Speaking, Senator Faseyi called on members to be resolute in changing the course of the party in the state, adding that everything possible would be done to make it more formidable ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
