Ekiti NURTW boss hails Fayemi over payment of COVID-19 relief fund

The chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ekiti State, Mr Osho Farotimi has commended the state Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi for his gesture in extending covid-19 relief packages to members of the union across the 16 local government areas of the state.

Farotimi who spoke with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital on Sunday noted that the relief packages including food items and money given to drivers helped in no small measure to ameliorate the sufferings of members aftermath of the lockdown imposed in the state last year to check the spread of the pandemic.

He said that members of the union were elated and happy to receive food packages with different items extended to the union which he described as unprecedented and unmatched. 

According to him, the recent payment of N30,000 transport fund  to members in the state was the icing on the cake, considering the effect of the pandemic on transporters in the state, commending the governor for allocating the fund to the practising drivers.

The NURTW chairman revealed that majority of members of the union received as approved by the federal government, the Covid-19 N30,000 relief stipends, saying, ” members were so elated that government could so remember them in difficult period with that kind of money, because nothing is too small when it comes to money in this state.”

Farotimi said, ” On behalf of NURTW members in the state, I commend our amiable governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi for the gesture towards us especially relating to covid-19 relief packages.

“Everybody knows the effect of the pandemic on the economy and our Governor remember us with lots of food items distributed to members and the most recent is the N30,000 transport survival fund. Our members received alert for the money and they were so happy with the administration.”

He assured the governor that the NURTW under his leadership would continue to support his administration in his quest to deliver dividends of democracy to people of the state, adding that the sensitisation of members on the need to receive the Covid-19 vaccines would be intensified.

Farotimi solicited the support of citizens of the state to the administration which he said has initiated life transforming projects and policies in education, health, infrastructure, social welfare and other critical sectors in the last three years.
