The Ekiti State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Venite University, Iloro-Ekiti, regarding the use of the State Specialist Hospital, Ijero Ekiti, for the clinical and practical training of the university’s medical students.

Speaking during the signing of the MoU in Ado-Ekiti, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani, stated that the partnership would enhance the clinical training of the students.

According to him: “The purpose of the MoU is to establish a collaborative framework whereby medical students from Venite University will undertake their clinical training and rural practice at designated healthcare facilities under the purview of the Ministry and the Hospital Management Board.

“The primary facility for the clinical training shall be the State Specialist Hospital, Ijero Ekiti, with additional health centres serving as rural practice locations.”

Represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Human Services, Mrs Olusola Gbenga-Igotun, Dr Filani assured that the ministry would continue to provide necessary support to willing and committed health partners and investors to advance knowledge, foster research, and protect the health of state residents.

The Commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment to the health and well-being of its citizens by providing quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare services across Ekiti State.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of Venite University, Professor James Olaogun, emphasised the institution’s vision of producing world-class graduates in all fields of human endeavour.

Professor Olaogun noted that the signing of the MoU would give medical and other health-related students the opportunity to gain access to clinical and practical training at the Specialist Hospital.

He added that the collaboration would help to develop the medical students into better professionals.

“The objective of the MoU is to permit the use of the State Specialist Hospital, Ijero Ekiti, as the primary Teaching Hospital for Venite University medical students. Rural practice centres will also enable students to gain hands-on experience in community healthcare delivery,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the state government for its ongoing renovation of hospitals, remarking that such investment would further enhance healthcare service delivery across the state.
