Ekiti State government has commenced aerial mapping of the state as part of efforts to implement a comprehensive land administration solution.
The government explained that the exercise which commenced on Sunday and would last till December 2025, would enhance the administration’s ability to plan appropriately for residents in the state, among other objectives.
The state commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, at the weekend explained that the exercise would witness the aircraft conducting aerial mapping flying at very low altitude.
Highlighting the benefits of the exercise to the state, Olatunbosun stressed that it would enable the provision of accurate and reliable geospatial data, which is essential for effective land management, urban planning, and infrastructure development.
He added that it would empower the government to make informed decisions regarding land use, allocation, and development, leading to improved governance and sustainable development.
The commissioner maintained that availability of accurate and up-to-date geospatial data would provide stakeholders including landowners, property developers, investors, and community organizations, with greater certainty and confidence in their land transactions and investments.
According to him, it would help reduce risks associated with land tenure insecurity, boundary disputes, and fraudulent transactions and lead to increased investment in real estate development and infrastructure projects.
The Commissioner assured residents that all necessary safety measures would be put in place during the aerial survey with close monitoring of all activities during the mapping exercise in the interest of public safety as well as the protection of residents and National security as a whole.
He solicited the continued support of all stakeholders for the success of the exercise and efforts of the government to develop the State, adding that residents should not be alarmed by planes flying at low altitudes during the mapping exercise.
