The Ekiti State Government has approved the sum of N10 billion for the rehabilitation of 11.4km and reconstruction of 6km Ita-Ido-Ido-Ile-Okemesi-Ikoro road.

Also, the government approved N200 million for the construction of a Modular Solar-Powered Irrigation System across selected farm hubs in the state.

The commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, disclosed that the approvals were made during the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

The statement explained that the N10 billion was in fulfilment of the administration’s commitment to the upgrade and maintenance of state roads.

Olatunbosun said, “The road is also expected to ease the hardship of the people in the area, improve the socio-economic activities of the axis and improve the security of lives and properties of the people along the road.

“The project was approved to be awarded to Messrs. Banky Pacesetter Nigeria Limited with payment of 60% of the contract sum as mobilization fee and 20 months completion period.”

On the construction of a modular solar-powered irrigation system, the commissioner noted that the system, when completed, would enhance productivity in the farm hubs and settlements being used by youths under the Bring Back Our Youths to Agriculture Programme.

He said, “The decision was part of efforts to transform the Agriculture Sector in Ekiti State, through targeted initiatives, and the Modular Solar-Powered Irrigation System is to be constructed to boost productivity at some selected farm hubs presently being utilised by Youths participating under the Bring Back Our Youths to Agriculture (BBYA) Programme.

“It is a proactive move to utilise innovative irrigation systems, leveraging on our perennial water bodies that are situated at various locations in the state to prevent negative impacts of unpredictable and uncontrollable changes in weather conditions on agricultural production.

“It is also a reflection of the unwavering resolve and commitment to transforming the agriculture sector, through empowering youths in agriculture at various locations across the State.

“The proposed location for the installation of irrigation facilities is the Ose Centre in Emure Local Govt, Ado-Ekiti, Ikere and Aramoko.”
