… Says party not dead in Ekiti
Following his overt participation in the statewide endorsement of President Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji for a second term in office by former governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Monday, a leading Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Mrs Funmilayo Ogun, has warned the former governor against demarketing the party with his anti-party actions.
The former Works’ Commissioner under Fayose, appealed to members of the party to remain determined, resolute and focused on winning the 2026 governorship election.
She gave the warning on Wednesday during an interaction with the 16 PDP Local Government chairmen, held at her office in Ado Ekiti, in preparation for the 2026 governorship primary of the party.
Ogun expressed regret over the brazen manner with which those who had benefited, using the PDP’s platform, were committing anti-party activities, describing this as not only inimical to the party, but was capable of demoralising the members.
She urged the National Working Committee(NWC) of the party, led by Iliya Umar Damagun, to caution those allegedly displaying such tendencies now that the party was preparing for a major electoral duel in Ekiti State in 2026.
“I am worried about these unbecoming and immature remarks of former governor Ayo Fayose concerning our party. It was wrong to demarket a party that gave you political popularity and fame that you are enjoying today.
“The national body has a mechanism to deal with such action, and they shouldn’t delay in doing this. Let me reassure our loyalists at the grassroots to continue mobilising for the party. PDP is on course and nothing can derail us,” she said.
Countering the position being flaunted that the party is fractured and can’t dislodge the incumbent Governor Oyebanji in the Ekiti State 2026 governorship poll, she said the party was intact, vibrant and more committed to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress.
She added that members should not be discouraged by the wave of defections bedevilling the party, saying, “PDP remains the party that will cater for the masses based on its numerous achievements.”
The PDP chieftain assured Ekiti residents that with all hands on deck and toeing the right part when the time comes, PDP will put smiles on their faces again.
The governorship aspirant enjoined all leaders and members who have left the party for APC or ADC to have a rethink and return to the party, expressing optimism that the PDP would win the 2026 gubernatorial election in the state.
The Chairman of the LG PDP Chairmen, who doubles as the Chairman of Efon Local Government, Oluyemi Ajanaku, affirmed their readiness to work for the victory of their party in the 2026 election.
