Ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, has solicited the support of a former governor of the state, Chief Segun Oni, for his governorship ambition.
Fayose, who is the younger brother of former governor Ayodele Fayose, visited Oni at his residence in Ifaki-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area, on Sunday.
According to a statement by his media office, the governorship hopeful engaged the elder statesman on his aspiration and commitment to fostering unity, sustainable development, and progress in Ekiti.
He expressed his desire to build on the legacies of past leaders while charting a new course for inclusive governance in the state.

The statement reads, “Otunba Fayose sought Engineer Oni’s guidance and support in his political journey, acknowledging the former governor’s wealth of experience and deep-rooted influence in Ekiti politics.”
He described Oni as a statesman whose leadership and contributions to the state’s development remain invaluable.
“In response, Engineer Oni welcomed Otunba Fayose and commended his aspirations for a better Ekiti.
“He encouraged him to remain focused on his vision and to prioritise the interests of the people as he continues his political consultations.
“The visit marks another strategic step in Otunba Fayose’s consultation efforts as he continues to engage key stakeholders and rally support ahead of the 2026 governorship election,” the statement reads.
