Ekiti 2018: Oni formally joins gov race, as APC promises free, fair primaries

The secretariat of Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was locked down on Monday as a former governor of the state, Chief Segun Oni, formally declared his intention to vie for the governorship ticket of the party in the 2018 election.

This is just as the leadership of the party in the state, while receiving Oni, the deputy national chairman (South), promised “a free, fair and credible primaries that would be accepted by all” to select the party’s flag bearer in the race.

Receiving Oni at the packed party secretariat, the deputy chairman of the party in the state, Mrs. Kemi Olaleye, expressed worry over what she said was the high-wire politicking and campaign of calumny being deployed by some of the aspirants in a bid to outwit themselves.

Olaleye urged supporters of various aspirants within the party to perceive  Governor Ayode Fayose and the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP)  as their common enemy, rather than those jostling for the party’s ticket.

She said the leadership of the party in the state had no favourite among the aspirants and assured that they would “conduct free, fair and credible primary election that would be acceptable to all the stakeholders.”

Olaleye however urged them to join hands when one of them emerges as the candidate “to fight and wrestle power from our common enemy, Ayò Fayose and the PDP.”

ONI, in his speech, said “I am going to build on the past records. I knew  those projects Ekiti loved during my first term, and I will build on that and those ones that needed to be corrected, that I will do.

“My believe as we prepare for this race is that together we can win. I have no enemy to fight in APC, no matter what our differences are.

“This party is a vehicle we must protect from being crashed and with the subtle appraisal we did today, we know that the PDP will become history in Ekiti in 2018.”
