AS Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Muslim faithful in Nigeria, urging renewed commitment to the nation and humanity.

President Tinubu, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, enjoined Nigerian Muslims to rededicate themselves to the noble teachings of the holy month, which emphasise piety, empathy, and unity among humanity.

“We have a lot to draw from the noble lessons of Ramadan, especially at a time like this. We must continue to abide by the virtues of piety, selflessness, perseverance, kindness and compassion beyond this period,” he said.

President Tinubu urged all Muslim faithful to extend a hand of kindness to the needy of all faiths, to further show unity and camaraderie.

The president also tasked Muslim leaders to use the occasion to offer prayers for peace and prosperity to prevail in the country.

Nigeria entering a new dawn —Speaker

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Abbas Tajudeen, on Thursday, congratulated Nigerian Muslims for the successful completion of Ramadan, saying their prayers and supplication are about to bring the country to a new dawn.

Tajudeen, in his Sallah message, said Allah has been merciful and gracious to Nigeria, especially in the wake of the country’s socio-economic, security, and political challenges.

He noted that divine intervention, through prayers, remains a major reason for the country’s unity, peace, and stability.

The speaker urged Muslims to continue to imbibe piety, selflessness, charity, and other virtues of Ramadan, stressing that Nigerians cannot afford to reduce their prayers for a better society and nation.

Atiku urges FG to prioritise security of Nigerians

Former vice president and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, congratulated Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the world.

Atiku, in a statement by his media office, admonished Muslims to remain steadfast in piety by maintaining peace and in charitable causes.

He said the completion of the obligatory fasting in the noble month of Ramadan should cause us to be more committed to the injunctions of Almighty Allah.

“The completion of the Ramadan fasting is a call to duty that ensures we sustain the good deeds that the noble month requires of us,” Atiku said.

He called on the government to take it more seriously, stressing that “the protection of the lives and property of citizens is a divine decree and the sole responsibility of every government.”

Makinde urges prayers, vigilance at Eid

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, extended warm felicitations to Muslims in the state and across Nigeria.

The governor encouraged Muslims to use the Eid celebration as an opportunity to seek divine guidance and offer prayers for the continued progress, peace, and effective leadership of the state and the nation at large.

Makinde also advised residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious during the festivities, urging them to be mindful of their surroundings and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate authorities.

Oyebanji urges prayers for prosperous Nigeria, successful Ekiti poll

Ekiti State governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, also congratulated Muslims on the Eid-el-Fitri festival.

The governor, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, described the completion of the Ramadan fast as a spiritually-fulfilling experience for Muslims.

He admonished Muslims in the state and the country as a whole to continue to pray for the success of President Bola Tinubu to realise the vision of a more prosperous Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda and a country that Nigerians at home and in Diaspora can be proud of.

The governor specifically charged the Muslim Community to pray for the successful conduct of the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti and for the state to enjoy peace before, during and after the June 20 poll.

Mbah urges unity, sacrifice

Enugu State governor, Dr Peter Mbah, urged the Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to sustain the virtues of unity, peace, and sacrifice that defined the Holy month of Ramadan.

In a message he personally signed, the governor said: “I extend my warmest greetings to the Muslim Ummah in Enugu State in particular and Nigerians in general as they celebrate the joyous occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, marking the successful completion of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

“As we mark this special day, may the enduring lessons of brotherhood, compassion, and the shared humanity that prevailed throughout Ramadan usher in a new season of unity and progress in our country.

Bala Mohammed calls for unity, compassion

Bauchi State governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, in his goodwill message, urged Nigerian to uphold and sustain the virtues cultivated during Ramadan, including compassion, humility, generosity, discipline, and kindness toward all.

“True success lies not only in observing Ramadan but in embodying its teachings throughout the year,” the governor stated, encouraging continued support for the less privileged and vulnerable members of society.”

Oborevwori felicitates Muslims, urges peace, unity

Delta State governor, Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, congratulated Muslims for their devotion, sacrifice, and commitment to the spiritual values of Islam, as demonstrated during the period of fasting and prayer.

The governor noted that Ramadan represents a period of deep reflection, self-discipline, compassion, and renewed faith, urging Muslims to sustain these virtues beyond the holy month for the overall good of society.

He emphasised the importance of peaceful coexistence, unity, and tolerance among people of different religious and ethnic backgrounds.

Moral decay threatens Nigeria’s progress —Alaafin

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has expressed concern that Nigeria’s development is being hindered by a lack of moral values.

In a message to mark Eid-el-Fitr, issued by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the Alaafin expressed concern that despite having intellectuals, economists, and skilled politicians, the nation is deficient in the moral values rooted in its socio-cultural traditions and religious teachings.

He stressed that scientific progress without a strong moral foundation can worsen human suffering and insecurity.

Oba Owoade noted that many of Nigeria’s persistent challenges stem from neglect or non-compliance with moral principles, resulting in stagnation across both public and private sectors.

Glo rejoices with Muslims over Eid celebration

Telecommunication giant, Globacom, in its goodwill message, praised the perseverance and dedication of Muslims throughout the 30 days of introspection, selflessness, and abstinence.

Globacom urged Nigerians to live up to these ideals and lessons of the fasting period by living the ideals of love, sacrifice, and communality.

According to Globacom, Nigerians should “use Eid-El-Fitri as a moment to reflect on their spiritual journey, promote the spirit of being one’s brother’s keeper, regardless of faith or background, and make sacrifices towards building a more prosperous and peaceful nation for all.”

Police assure peaceful celebration nationwide

The police, on Thursday, assured the members of the public of peaceful celebration nationwide, saying that there is no cause for alarm with the proactive measures already put in place across states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, disclosed that following the directive of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, all police formations have been put on the red alert with the deployment of additional assets and personnel to ensure adequate security before, during and after the celebration

He said: “We are monitoring the security situation across the states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, I can say boldly that the area is calm; there is no cause for concern. Our personnel are on ground everywhere working in collaboration with other sister security agencies.

“We have taken all necessary proactive measures to ensure adequate security for the citizens, their properties and public assets, the personnel have been patrolling the highways, sea and air, they are keeping eagle eyes on black spots and they will be on ground at all the praying grounds nationwide

“But we are not leaving chances, we have our Special Forces on ground for easy and prompt mobilisation if the need arises. We are only appealing to the members of the public to conduct themselves in peaceful manners and to cooperate with the police and other security personnel and report suspicious elements promptly for immediate and necessary action.

Miyetti Allah cautions members against carrying knives, matches, others

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has cautioned its members against carrying matches, knives, sticks, or any similar object during Sallah festivities or public gatherings.

Its president, Alhaji Baba Othman-Ngelzarma, issued the warning in a statement to mark the completion of Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitr Celebration, on Thursday, in Abuja.

Othman-Ngelzarma also advised all members of the association, particularly youths, to avoid actions that may lead to confrontation or misunderstanding with fellow citizens or security agencies during the period.

“As we celebrate the joyous occasion of Eid-el-Fitr (Sallah), MACBAN calls on all its members, pastoral communities, and indeed all Nigerians to mark the celebration in a peaceful, responsible, and law-abiding manner.

“The Sallah festival is a time for gratitude to Allah, reconciliation among communities, and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood.

”Members are specifically cautioned against carrying or displaying any objects that could be perceived as weapons, including matches, knives, sticks, or any similar items, during Sallah festivities or public gatherings.”

The pastoralist leader insisted that sallah celebrations must be conducted with dignity, restraint, and full respect for the laws of the land.

“The association also wishes to draw the attention of its members to the onset of the rainy season across many parts of Nigeria.

“This period coincides with the beginning of widespread farming activities. MACBAN, therefore, strongly urges all pastoralists to exercise utmost caution in their herding practices.”

Othman-Ngelzarma reminded pastoralists that peaceful coexistence with farmers and host communities remains essential to national harmony and to the sustainability of livestock production.

According to him, respect for farmlands, local regulations, and traditional conflict-resolution mechanisms must remain a guiding principle for all pastoralists.
