Kano State Government has raised concerns over alleged plans by some individuals to disrupt the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, warning of attempts to incite disorder during the festive period.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Kano, citing intelligence reports from the State Security Council.

According to the commissioner, the reports indicate “deliberate attempts by some individuals to create confusion and instigate a breakdown of law and order” during the Sallah celebrations.

He stated that the government, under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, remains committed to maintaining peace and safeguarding lives and property across the state.

In response to the security concerns, Waiya said the government, after consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other stakeholders, had approved specific arrangements for the festivities.

Under the new measures, the traditional Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) will be conducted by the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, starting from the Kofar Mata Eid Praying Ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, and ending at Kofar Fatalwa of the Emir’s Palace.

He added that Hawan Nasarawa would be held in a modified format without horseback displays, while Hawan Daushe has been suspended for this year and deferred to future celebrations.

Hawan Fanisau and Hawan Dorayi have also been temporarily suspended in the interest of public safety.

The commissioner said security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance, enforce compliance with the directives, and take necessary lawful actions to prevent any breach of peace before, during, and after the celebrations.

The government urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies, while cautioning against the spread of unverified information.

It also commended security personnel for their efforts and assured the public of a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration.
