Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to advancing the education sector in the state, emphasizing that it is a key driver of the state’s 2050 economic agenda.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed this commitment during the commissioning of Keme Balogun Senior and Junior Colleges in Ibeshe, Ikorodu, along with several other schools across the state.
The newly constructed and rehabilitated schools include Awori Junior College, Ojo; Euba Junior High School, Mushin; Ipara Junior College, Majiyagbe; Mainland Junior Secondary School, Fadeyi; St. Luke Junior Secondary School, Bariga; State Junior High School, Ibereko, Badagry; and Thogli Community Grammar School, also in Badagry.
Earlier, the governor conducted an inspection tour of the ultra-modern block of classrooms at Ajegunle Junior High School in Kosofe Local Government Area. He highlighted that the construction of an 18-classroom block, the renovation of existing structures, and the addition of modern facilities such as a food canteen would enhance the quality of education and boost enrollment rates.
Sanwo-Olu further stated that these improvements would help develop a more educated and skilled workforce, capable of driving innovation and economic growth in the state.
He also emphasized the importance of equipping students with technical skills to ensure they remain competitive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. He noted that the focus on technical education, particularly through the new Intro-Tech block, is significant in an era where technology is reshaping industries.
“These newly renovated and constructed facilities will serve as a catalyst for change, providing our children with the tools they need to compete in an increasingly globalized world.
“The construction of an 18-classroom block, the renovation of existing structures, and the addition of modern facilities such as a food canteen, an Intro-Tech block, and sports fields will create an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and physically. But the benefits do not stop there,” the governor said.

“These projects have already created jobs during the construction phase, providing livelihoods for local workers and stimulating the local economy. Moving forward, the improved infrastructure will enhance the quality of education and increase enrollment rates. This, in turn, will result in a more educated and skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and economic development in our state.
“Moreover, the emphasis on technical education through the new Intro-Tech block is particularly significant. In a world where technology is reshaping industries, equipping our students with technical skills ensures they are not left behind.
“As we commission these schools, we are opening doors to opportunity, progress, and a brighter future. I urge the community to take ownership of these schools and support them to ensure they remain centers of excellence that continue to transform lives for generations to come,” he added.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also encouraged students to strive for academic excellence in their West African School Certificate Examinations (WAEC), promising to continue improving educational facilities if they excel.
Additionally, he commended the State Government’s Special Committee on the Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) for ensuring that school projects were completed without delays. He assured that his administration would not only complete school construction projects but also equip them with the necessary resources to achieve the government’s educational goals.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing top-tier infrastructure in schools and ensuring that teachers are well-trained and qualified to educate students effectively.
He also urged parents to engage with their children and guide them towards a well-rounded future.
The State Commissioner for Basic Education, Jamie Tolani Alli-Balogun, described the simultaneous commissioning of 16 new blocks of classrooms across the state as a testament to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to providing quality education for Lagosians.
“This is a shining testament to your commitment to students’ well-being, the provision of conducive learning environments, and the creation of opportunities for students to develop their physical and emotional skills. We are investing in their future by equipping them with the resources needed to excel in life,” the commissioner said.
Similarly, SCRPS Chairman Hakeem Smith, while giving an overview of the school’s construction, recalled how the school’s poor condition was brought to the governor’s attention, prompting immediate action to rehabilitate it.
He stated that the new school is now equipped with modern facilities, including 30 toilets, a football pitch, a race track, and basketball and tennis courts.
“The school received attention when the governor learned about its poor state. It had two bungalows in bad condition. When we began renovations, one of the bungalows was demolished, and a soil test was conducted to determine the appropriate foundation type,” he explained.
Smith commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for revitalizing schools across the state, noting that public school enrollment has increased as parents now prefer government schools over private ones.
“You have demonstrated immense support for improving Lagos schools. The population in public schools has grown significantly,” he added.
The Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for fulfilling his election promises and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to providing more infrastructure, particularly in Ikorodu.
The Principal of Keme Balogun Junior/Senior College, Dauda Olagoke, also expressed gratitude to the governor for renovating the school, describing him as a role model who genuinely cares about students.
“You are indeed a role model. You epitomize excellence and truly care for these students,” he said.
