The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Edo State has extended heartfelt congratulations to Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, on his recent appointment as the 11th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Chapel praised Professor Omoregie’s appointment as well-deserved and expressed confidence in his ability to fulfill the university’s mission and core goals.
The Chapel, which represents journalists from national daily newspapers stationed in Edo State, commended his dedication to enhancing the education system and supporting student development in Nigeria.
The statement, jointly issued by the Chapel’s Chairman, Mrs. Nefishetu Yakubu, and Secretary, Elder Patrick Ahanor, conveyed prayers for a successful and rewarding tenure for the new Vice Chancellor, emphasizing the positive impact his leadership is expected to have on the university community.
“It is clear that you have put in hard work in your service to the development of students and Nigeria’s education system to make this happen,” the statement read.

Professor Omoregie, a distinguished scholar in constitutional law and governance, has a robust academic and legal background. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992 and earned the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 2021.
His appointment was officially announced on October 25, 2024, by the Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Benin, Prof. Shaibu Umaru, who noted that Professor Omoregie will succeed the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lillian Salami, whose tenure concludes on December 1.
