Aisha Yesufu, a socio-political activist, has strongly criticised Governor Godwin Obaseki for his dissatisfaction with the Edo State governorship election results.
Obaseki’s concerns about the election outcome were swiftly met with skepticism, particularly given his history with democratic processes.
Yesufu pointed out several instances where Obaseki allegedly undermined democracy, including: Refusal to swear in Edo House of Assembly members, selective judicial appointments, amongst others.
These actions, Yesufu argues, contradict Obaseki’s claims of democracy being under attack. Instead, she urges him to accept the democratic process and its outcome.
The election saw Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerge victorious, securing 291,667 votes and winning 11 local government areas.
She wrote on X, “I am looking for a video where Obaseki was speaking about the principles of democracy. Please share if you have it.
“Obaseki that refused for 4 years to swear in 14 Edo House of Assembly members.
“Obaseki that refused to swear in judges. He swore in 5 out of 8.
“Obaseki that got his deputy Governor impeached. He is talking about democracy under attack.”
