Edo Assembly crisis: Security personnel man complex, environs

Published by

There was a heavy presence of security personnel, particularly members of the Edo State Security Network, on Tuesday at the Edo State House of Assembly in Benin City, the Edo State Capital.

Recall that the Speaker of the State House of Assembly had on Monday in a rowdy session, suspended indefinitely three members of the House for an alleged impeachment plot and juju scare.

The three affected lawmakers are Hon. Donald Okogbe representing Akoko-Edo II (PDP), Bright Iyamu, Orhionmwon South (PDP), and Hon. Adeh Isibor, Esan North-East (APC)

Hon. Agbebaku had alleged that the three suspended members were being influenced by external forces to cause chaos and remove the leadership of the Assembly.

He also alleged that some persons brought native doctors into the House at nocturnal hours on Wednesday 1, 2024 to make some incantations and dropped charms in the Assembly complex.

Agbebaku then adjourned the sitting of the House to Tuesday (today) for continuation of plenary.

However, heavy security presence was sighted at the front of the Assembly complex and around Ring-Road environs, apparently to forestall any security breach.

Journalists and parliamentarian workers were engaged in a waiting match as the House was yet to commence plenary at about 1 pm on Tuesday.

The lawmakers, including the Speaker of the House, were not in sight, a development learnt to be causing apprehension amongst the workers.
