Ahead of the October 14 state congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, the consensus arrangement which was largely employed by the ruling party during the ward and local congresses seemed to have hit a brick wall as a top member, Chief Francis Inegbeneki has signified his intention to challenge the incumbent acting chairman, Col. David Imuse (rtd).
Both Imuse and his main challenger for the state chairmanship of the party, Inegbeneki are both from Edo central senatorial district where the plum position is zoned.
Speaking weekend in Benin who lost the 2020 senatorial election to Senator Clifford Ordia of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) promised to rebuild and reposition the APC in Edo State if elected chairman of the party in the forthcoming state congress.
Inegbeneki who spoke at his Benin City residence when some APC leaders and another top echelon of the party visited him to present the state chairmanship form to him said that due to pressure from political leaders from across the 18 local government areas, he has accepted to run for the position.
He said: “I have hearkened to the voice of the leaders and pledged to be available to serve my people if given the opportunity to serve as the state Chairman will rebuild and rebrand the party ahead of 2023.”
He promised to reconcile all political camps in the state immediately after he is elected.
While expressing his unalloyed support for the APC in the run-up to the state congress, Inegbeneki urged all members of the party to remain steadfast and restrategize their efforts to reclaim Edo state in the nearest future.
He solicited the support of all stakeholders, adding that he is willing and ready to win back Edo state to APC after it lost the governorship election to Governor Godwin Obaseki who defected to the PDP shortly before the election.
The crack in the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, widened as a chieftain of the party, who is contesting the state chairmanship position, Chief Francis Inegbeneki, has assured that he would rebuild the party if elected the state chairman.
Inegbeniki, who is the Vice-Chairman, Edo Central District of the party, is contesting the chairmanship, having registered his displeasure with the way the congresses of the party at the ward and local government levels were conducted.
Speaking while playing host to some APC leaders, who paid him a solidarity visit in his Benin residence to present the APC State congress form to him to contest, Inegbeneki said that due to pressure from the political leaders from across the 18 local government areas, he had accepted to run for the position, noting that he had harkened to the voice of the leaders and pledged to be available to serve his people.
He assured when given the opportunity to serve as the state Chairman, he would rebuild and rebrand the party ahead of the 2023 general elections and promised to reconcile all political tendencies in the state.
Expressing his unalloyed support for the APC ahead of the state Congress, Inegbeneki urged all members of the party to remain steadfast and restrategise their efforts to reclaim Edo state in future
Inegbeneki also pledged to lead the party with a purpose and solicited the support of all party members to make the party great again, saying that he was willing and ready to win back Edo state for APC.
