A United Kingdom-based philanthropist, Dr Abbey Akinoshun, has said that Nigerians need all the support they can get during this period because of the economic challenges they are facing as a result of government policies.
Dr Akinoshun stated this on Thursday while donating cash to the elderly at Kojola community in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Represented by the Director, Dr Abbey Akinoshun Foundation (DAAF), Mr Adewale Onipede, Dr Akinoshun said the foundation would continue to support vulnerable people in the society so that they can have a sense of belonging and weather the high cost of living in the country.
He said, “We used to support the elderly and other vulnerable group of people during festive periods, but of late, we have made the donations regular because people are suffering and it is the responsibility of well-to-do organisations and individuals to ensure that those around them do not feel the pangs of hunger.
“What we are doing in our own little way is just to cushion the financial challenges people are passing through due to the economic policies of government.”

While Dr Akinoshun promised to continue to assist the underprivileged in the society, he also charged the government to formulate policies that won’t stretch people’s economic survival.
One of the beneficiaries, Pa Lamidi Ibrahim, thanked Dr Akinoshun and DAAF for the gesture.
“We know how difficult it is in the country today, so for an individual to bring together elderly people and give them money is something we really appreciate,” Pa Ibrahim said.
Another beneficiary, Madam Abibat Kehinde, said DAAF keeps supporting the elderly in the community..
“I fact, during every Easter and Ileya, they give us money and food items. This is what they have been doing for a very long time and I want to appreciate Dr Akinoshun for his love for the elderly.
“Even, he provided solar-powered borehole for the community and it has helped us from going long distances in search for water. May God continue to boost the work of his hand,” Madam Kehinde said.
DAAF, which has been in the business of supporting the underprivileged, also has an outreach which visits the Adeoyo Hospital on periodic basis to assist patients who are finding it difficult to pay their hospital bills or buy medications.
