The wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has called on the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals to collaborate with the government in eradicating fake online news in the country.
According to her, fake news had contributed immensely to the insecurity and other harmful challenges facing the nation recently.
Chief Nwifuru disclosed this at Ebonyi State University ICT Auditorium Permanent site, during a Lecture series organized by (ASCPN) with the theme “Curbing online fake news in Nigeria”.
She however commended (ASCPN), distinguished Professors and lecturers of the institution for their contributions to making the university one of the best in the country and charged them to continue with the good work assuring to support them at all time.
“I commend this Association for organizing this workshop, which is very educative and commendable. Your choice of topic: “Curbing Online Fake News in Nigeria”, is timely considering the destructive nature of fake news in society”.
“I would like to call for collaboration between the government and the academia, in the fight against fake news in Ebonyi State, to ensure that will project the state in a good way to the society”. She said
Mrs Nwifuru further charged the lecturers, students and all the people living in the State to support the fight against Gender-based violence through advocacy to their various communities with the aim to reduce the ugly act in the state.
She however, appreciated (ASCPN) and the University for Honoring her with “Award of Humility” and expresses her readiness to work with them.
Earlier in their separate remarks, the acting Vice Chancellor Prof Eugene Nweke, and the president of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals (ASCPN), Ebonyi State Chapter, Prof Ifeyinwa Nsude expressed gratitude to the First Lady of Ebonyi State for coming for the important event and being a good alumina of the institution.
