The Governor of Ebonyi, Francis Nwifuru, has expressed displeasure over the poor environmental condition of the capital city and its environs.
According to him, the state of the capital city constitutes a health hazard to the residents of the state.
Nwifuru, who said his government will no longer tolerate dirty environs within the capital city, directed the State Commissioner for Environment to immediately ensure that all refuse dumps are evacuated within the next 24 hours, as failure to comply strictly with the directive will attract severe sanctions.
The governor disclosed this in a statement signed and made available to journalists by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor.
“I want to warn the Commissioner for Environment for the last time to sit up and do the work and get the environment clean because I will not spare him if found wanting this time around.
The governor tasked residents of the state with cooperating with the government and ensuring strict compliance with environmental sanitation measures already in place.
“I, therefore, use this opportunity to urge residents of the state to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on medians of the road and blocking of drainage systems but should rather use designated dump sites”.
According to the governor, he will personally move around the city to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
