Drug abuse : NGO sensitises Secondary School students in Nasarawa

DRUG and Substance Abuse Eradication Initiative, a Non-governmental Organisation, says it is sensitising secondary schools students in Nasarawa State against drug abuse and other social vices due to their negative effects on the society.

Mr Moses Manjo, the Executive Director of the organisation, stated this in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Keffi, Keffi Local Government Area of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the organisation recently carried out sensitisation campaign against drug abuse to Sokoga British School and Baptist High school, all in Keffi local government area of the state and to some secondary schools in the state.

NAN reports that the theme of the campaign is “Drug Abuse: The Future and You”.

According to him, the campaign will go a long way in helping the students to resist the temptation of going into drugs and substance abuse.

Manjo said that they decided to create awareness in secondary schools in order to educate them on the danger of drug abuse to societal development and how to overcome addiction.

“It will also help the students to educate others on the dangers of drug abuse to themselves and to societal development,” he said.

He said that drug abuse and other social vices had affected the education of many Nigerian youths and the society negatively, hence the need for effective collaboration in order to eradicate the menace.

He advised parents and guardians to always monitor the movement of their children in order not to be influenced by bad friends.

The executive director assured of the organisation’s commitment to initiate peace promotion and other activities that would bring the much-needed development to the country.

Besides, he called on the people of the state and Nigerians to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliation.
