
A 23-year-old member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Miss Modupe Tawose, was last Saturday, raped and murdered by her driving instructor, Festus Udoh.
The incident, happened last Saturday, inside a thick bush, at Zone 1 Street, Abule Ayo, Mawuko area of Abeokuta, in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The victim who was a Batch A member of the scheme, due to complete her one-year mandatory service to her fatherland next year April, was lured by Udoh on the pretence that her driver’s learner permit was ready for collection.
According to the suspect, an indigene of Uromi in Edo State, he forcefully had carnal knowledge of Tawose inside the bush severally and eventually killed her, when she threatened to report his act to security agencies.
Tawose was declared missing by her friends to the NYSC authorities in the State to the Police through a letter by the State Coordinator, Mr John Obuh to the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu.
Iliyasu who led newsmen to the scene of the crime said he gave a matching order upon the receipt of the complaint that a search party should investigate the missing case.
The Police boss said the suspect was arrested through technical intelligence by men of the Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping through technical intelligence.
Iliyasu said the matter was a case of murder considering the way and manner the suspect carried out the heinous crime.
He said, “This is a case of murder and an act of wickedness of man to man. A case of missing person, Modupe Tawose, Batch A Corps member was reported at a Police Station. Detectives from Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping immediately swung into action and through technical intelligence we are able to verify the last caller to the missing lady.
“This development led to the arrest of Festus Udoh an indigene of Uromi in Edo State. He was teaching her how to drive. He tactically deceived her that her driver’s permit was ready for collection and deceitfully brought her to this thick bush and had carnal knowledge of her and strangled her to death.”
The suspect in an interview with newsmen confessed to the crime, saying he lured his victim to the bush to rape her and later killed her.
Udoh said, “She called me that she was coming to pick her learner’s permit. I told her I was no longer with my employer and that I have secured a permit for her. I told her to come and pick it up with me and she obliged.
“She came to meet me at Lafenwa and from there, we took a motorcycle from Lafenwa to the scene of the crime. When we alighted from the bike and trekking the bush path, she asked if I was living inside the bush and I told her that my house was located around the place.
“At that point, I told her I wanted to have sex with her. She kicked against my move, but I overpowered her. I dragged her inside the bush, tied her hands and raped severally.
“When I realised that she was gasping for breath, I fled the scene. I was later arrested by the police days after.”
