ONE Jamiu Babatunde, 41, of no given address, appeared before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday charged with stealing his employer’s truck worth N4.5 million.
The police prosecutor, Insp Romanus Unuigbe, told the court that Babatunde committed the offence on April 26 at Casino Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos.
Unuigbe said Babatunde worked as a driver for the complainant and employer, Bolarinwa Oluwaseun and stole his M.A.N Truck Diesel worth N4.5 million.
“When Babatunde was asked about the truck, he said the truck had some electrical problems and caught fire on the way.”
“Babatunde took his employer to the spot where he allegedly left the burnt truck and there was no truck or traces of fire there,’’ he said.
Babatunde pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of stealing.
He said the offence contravened Section 278 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr P.A. Ojo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two responsible sureties and adjourned the case until June 23 for trial.
