Don’t be discouraged by Nigeria’s challenges, Trinity varsity chancellor charges fresh graduates

Founder of Doyin group of companies and Chancellor of Trinity University Yaba, Lagos, Prince Samuel Adedoyin, has urged the newly graduated students of the university not to be discouraged by the socio-economic challenges confronting Nigeria.

He urged them to instead turn challenges into opportunities to make a difference using their new knowledge, skills and exposure.

Adedoyin, who is a renowned industrialist, gave the admonition at the third convocation ceremony of the university held on Friday.

According to him, even though there are challenges today, Nigeria’s future is bright and the possibilities to make it are endless.

He said, “Many young Nigerians are making waves globally, achieving feat that inspire and motivate others.

“They are making waves in many fields including innovative tech startups and ground-breaking scientific discoveries and so forth.

“So, as a fresh graduate with good foundation, requisite knowledge and skills, what you need now is to remain focus, be passionate and resilient to drive positive change in your respective fields.

“I will therefore implore you to stay curious, keep learning and exploring. Take risk by challenging the status quo and pursuing the boundaries of possibilities while also maintaining a close relationship with God who is God of all possibilities.”

Adedoyin, however, announced the endowment of three new awards at the event to encourage academic excellence, innovative thinking and demonstration of entrepreneurial spirit, among the students.

These awards, according to him, are the Chancellor’s Prize for Overall best student, the Chancellor’s Prize for Innovation as well as Chancellor’s Prize for Entrepreneurship.

He said “these awards would not only recognize and reward outstanding students but would also inspire and motivate others to strive for excellence.”

Adedoyin congratulated all the graduands and their parents as well as the honorary doctorate award recipient, Sir Gabriel Oladipupo, who is the President of the Architect Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCN) and wished them well.

In his address, the vice-chancellor of the university, Prof Clement Kolawole, gave the number of graduating students as 122 across disciplines out of whom 28 (representing 22.95%) achieved First Class.

He also disclosed that 16 among the graduands were from the Nursing and Medical Laboratory Science department while Farouq Adedolapo, who studied Computer Science graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.95 to become the overall best of the set.

The vice-chancellor, who is a professor of language education, reading and curriculum development, declared that all the graduands had been thoroughly trained, congratulating them and their parents on their new status.

He also commended the management and staff for their commitment to the growth and development of the six-year-old university, urging them for more work.

Speaking in the same vein, the chairman of the governing council of the university, Pastor Samuel Olatunji, expressed gratitude to God for the steady growth of the university and thanked the promoter, the management team and other members of the university community for their respective commitment to the university,

He said the university had a clear vision and mission at its establishment, which is to produce globally competitive graduates and also engage in cutting-edge research and community services, promising continuous commitment to the cause.
