A renowned industrialist and founder of Doyin Group of Companies, Prince Samuel Adedoyin, has urged the newly graduated students of Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, not to be discouraged by the socio-economic challenges facing Nigeria.
He advised them to view these challenges as opportunities to make a difference using their newly acquired knowledge, skills, and exposure.
Adedoyin gave this admonition at the university’s third convocation ceremony on Friday. He was appointed as the Chancellor of the institution last year.
According to him, despite the current challenges, Nigeria’s future remains bright, with endless possibilities for success.
“I know this because many young Nigerians are making waves globally, achieving feats that inspire and motivate us.
“From innovative tech start-ups to ground-breaking scientific discoveries, our youths are proving that they have what it takes to succeed on the world stage.
“So, as you graduate today, you must continue on this trajectory and also uphold the reputation of your family and Trinity University.
“You have built the foundation, you have the knowledge and requisite skills, and what you need now is to stay focused, passionate, and resilient in driving positive change in your respective fields and endeavours.
“So, stay curious; keep learning and exploring. Take risks by challenging the status quo and pushing the boundaries of possibilities, while also maintaining a close relationship with God.”
Adedoyin further announced the endowment of three new award categories at the event to encourage academic excellence, innovative thinking, and entrepreneurial spirit among the students.
These awards, according to him, are the Chancellor’s Prizes for the Overall Best Student, for Innovation, and for Entrepreneurship.
He congratulated all the graduates and their parents, as well as the honorary Doctor of Business Administration award recipient, Sir Gabriel Ajayi, who is the President of the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCN), and wished them well.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Clement Kolawole, stated that 122 students graduated across various disciplines, of whom 28 (representing 22.95%) achieved First Class honours.
He also disclosed that 16 of the graduates were from the Nursing and Medical Laboratory Science programmes as pioneering students, while Farouq Adedolapo, who studied Computer Science, graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.95, emerging as the overall best student of the set.
The Vice-Chancellor, who is a professor of language education, reading, and curriculum development, declared that all the graduates had been well trained, congratulating them and their parents on their new status.
He also commended the management and staff for their dedication to the growth and development of the six-year-old university, urging them to continue their commitment.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the university, Pastor Samuel Olatunji, expressed gratitude to God for the steady growth of the university. He also thanked the promoter, the management team, and other members of the university community for their dedication.
He reaffirmed that the university was established with a clear vision and mission – to produce globally competitive graduates and to engage in cutting-edge research and community service – and pledged continued commitment to this cause.
