Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Yakubu Dogara, and his co-travellers in the build-up to the 2023 general elections have been urged to forget the past and team up with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to move the country forward positively.
Recall that Yakubu Dogara, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, and others left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.
Now that the elections are over and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been sworn in, the need for support to enable him to succeed has been stressed.
The call was made by a chieftain of the APC in Bauchi State, Godfrey Manasseh, while fielding questions from journalists in an interactive session, stressing that “everyone can now see that the so-called Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket was just used by the APC to win the election.”
According to him, “The ticket was not about religion but a political calculation by the APC, which worked out well in its favour. Nigerians can now see clearly.”
Godfrey Manasseh added, “I am therefore calling on Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara and others to have a rethinking and retrace their ways back into the APC fold to enable them to contribute to the development and well-being of the country and its people.”
The one-time aspirant in the APC called on Nigerians to have more patience with the President Bola Tinubu-led administration, assuring that “very soon, things will get back to normal.”
Though he agreed that times are hard as a result of the fuel subsidy removal coupled with a few economic reforms, the politician expressed optimism that it will not be long before things get better.
On the appointment of a replacement for Simon Bako Lalong as Minister to represent Plateau State, he said that Hon. Amos Gizo is the most appropriate person to fill the vacuum.
According to him, “Amos Gizo is one politician I can vouch for; he worked relentlessly and untiringly to ensure that President Bola Tinubu got bulk votes from Christians in Bauchi and Plateau states.”
He explained, “My conviction is that he will be a good representation for the people of Plateau State. He is an astute political leader who has the backing of the people. I am very sure that he will add value to the administration as a minister.”
The politician further said that so far, so good for the administration considering the calibre of people that have been appointed to one office or another, opining that things are gradually taking shape.
Godfrey Manasseh stressed that what is needed now that electioneering is over is collaboration in all sectors by all the people to move the country forward.
