Developing rural areas

Over the years and in our recent history, not much care has been given to our rural areas. This is sad and should be checked. In England and other developed parts of the world, adequate care and development are given to their rural areas. In the United States of America for instance, the development of rural areas is not joked with. They do not joke with their rural communities with social and industrial provisions to deflate unnecessary influx into their big cities—but not in Nigeria where many rural towns have become ghost towns because of the selfishness of certain people.

Today, a town called Fiditi in Oyo State has produced so many politicians and leaders of note. But the town today has really known no real development. This should not be the case. We must ensure that we develop our rural areas as this can guarantee the needed development that we look out for. Fiditi has produced ministers, commissioners, permanent secretaries, directors in various capacities, and many other well-meaning Nigerians.

In some of our towns or locations where universities are established, it is noticed that through the years, development of various trappings can be found there. Where tertiary institutions are located, developments are attracted. In Iwo, Osun State, where the Bowen University is located, tremendous improvements can be noticed there today.

It is important that we prioritise the development of these places if we are going to ensure the overall development of the other parts of the country.
