Desist from breaching public trust, Khalifah Ayede tells political leaders

HOLDERS of official power at the different levels of governance have been told to desist from breaching public trust and begin to discharge affairs of state with conscientiousness and trustworthiness.

A cleric, Khalifah Isa Ayede Al-Fulany, gave the advice in Ibadan, Oyo State, at the second Ramadan lecture organised by a private radio station, Inspiration 100.5 FM.

Khalifah Ayede lamented that despite Nigeria’s many endowments, material comforts had remained elusive for ordinary citizens because of years of failure on the part of the leaders.

He, however, advised Nigerians to embrace moral rejuvenation and mend their relationship with God so that they could become worthy of leaders who would show sympathy for their sufferings.

While emphasising the need for the people to be uncompromising in their hope for the emergence of the ideal Nigerian society, the cleric described as ungodly, the idea of cursing leaders who appear to fail to seize the opportunity for meritorious service.

Ayede then urged everyone charged with the affairs of others in any form to take a cue from the leadership style of Prophet Muhammad and exercise power with grace and dignity.

The chairman of the Ramadan Committee, Alhaji Abdul Rasaq Abdul Ganeey, better known professionally as Mr GRA, said the choice of the topic of the lecture, “The Role of Muslims in Governance,” was informed by the need to remind all Nigerians occupying positions of authority of their duty to God and humanity.

Alhaji Abdul Ganeey added that the lecture was apt, coming at a time when Nigerians were looking at another general election where they would have a fresh opportunity to choose good leaders.

At the event, which was attended by business administrators, politicians and members of the general public, awards were presented to some Muslim personalities for their contributions to the development of Islam.
