Democracy day: Dankwambo calls for peaceful coexistence

AS the country marks another Democracy Day Tuesday, Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has called on fellow politicians in the country to conduct themselves well and shun acts capable of disrupting peaceful coexistence in their respective States and the County in general.

The Governor made the appeal in a goodwill message to the people of the State to mark the 2018 Democracy Day Celebration and 19 years of interrupted democratic rule in the country.

He stated that as Nigeria ushers in full political activities in a few months time in preparation for the general elections, all hands must be on deck to ensure peace reigns in the State and Country in general.

According to him, “Let me, therefore, use this opportunity to call on us to conduct ourselves well and shun acts capable of disrupting peaceful coexistence in the State.”

“In this regard, I call on our youth to continue to behave well and contribute positively to the development of the State,” the Governor stated.

He then congratulated the entire people of Nigeria over the celebration of 19 years of uninterrupted democratic governance in the country.

He said, “The relevance of Democracy Day would be better appreciated when we cast a look at our journey to nationhood and Democracy from 1960 to date which has been characterized by many upheavals.”

Hassan DanKwambo added that, “The commemoration of this year’s Democracy and indeed all the previous years is, therefore, a celebration of Democracy, political stability and freedom.”

“I, therefore, call on us to rededicate ourselves to nation building, remain united and frontally confront our problems with total equanimity. We must always remember that the task of nation-building is a collective responsibility”, he emphasized.

The celebration in Gombe was marked low keyed even with the presence of the State Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo in town and no reasons were given over the manner of the celebration.
