As Nigeria celebrates 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, the national leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has congratulated the government and the citizens.
CAN stated that Nigeria’s democracy has been tested by the fires of adversity, from the struggles of its early years to the present-day trials of insecurity, economic hardship, and social injustice.
A statement signed by the President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, emphasized the importance of acknowledging that the country’s democracy still faces significant challenges.
“Insecurity, economic hardship, and social injustice continue to afflict our citizens. We urge the government to prioritize the common good, address these pressing issues, and ensure that our democracy serves the people, not just the interests of a few.

“We emphasize the importance of integrity, transparency, and accountability in governance. Our leaders must recognize that power is a sacred trust, and they will be held accountable for their actions.
“We also stress the need for unity and inclusivity, recognizing the value of our diverse ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds. Let us work together to build a stronger, more just Nigeria, where everyone has a voice and equal opportunities,” the statement said.
CAN expressed its belief that democracy is a gift from God and must be stewarded wisely.
