Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has lauded the chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Chief Jite Brown, for his foresight in protecting the lives and property of his people with the execution of security-related projects.
Governor Oborevwori made the remark while inaugurating a standard police station, officers quarters and utility surveillance vehicle built by Chief Brown.
He described the project as timely and appropriate considering the peculiar nature of the area in terms of security.
Oborevwori, who was represented at the occasion by Hon. Kanemala Penewou, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, highlighted the importance attached to the security of lives and property in the state.
He noted that it was one of the reasons his administration considers it very strategic in its MORE agenda.
“It is with a great pride and a profound sense of appreciation that I welcome you all to the commissioning of this police Divisional Headquarters and their quarters as well a surveillance vehicle.
“This event marks not just the building but the beginning of a very serious commitments to the security, justice and fairness in this community and the Local Government area in general.
“The building is more than just bricks and esthetics but a symbol of authority, safety and protection of lives and property of the people.
“Let us not forget that the heart and soul of this building are the men and women who will work there and stay as guidance of peace and order in this community.
“As you are all aware, security is paramount, especially now that the level of insecurity is alarming across the country.
“Police as you all know is our friend and this project is in tandem with the MORE agenda of His Excellency in peace and security.
“At this point, I urged you all to make good use of this opportunity as the police station serves as a symbol of unity, peace and security for the people in this area.
“May it stand as a testament of our cheered commitments not just to the society but the generations to come,” Oborevwori prayed.
Earlier, the Udu Local Government Area chairman, Chief Brown, said that the decision to embark on the legacy project was a unanimous decision by the Local Government Executive Council after serious consultations with various stakeholders in the community, including the traditional council, elders, youths and women.
He disclosed that the executive audio took the initiative to embark on the project in line with the MORE agenda of Governor Oborevwori’s administration because of the importance attached to the security of lives and property.
He explained that the council was equally moved by the desire to tackle the incessant communal clashes between Aladja and Ogbe-Ojoh communities over their age-long land dispute.
He further averred that having more policemen deployed to the town would strategically go a long way in reducing the escalation of crisis in the area.
On the officers quarters, he said the idea was to ensure that policemen posted to serve in the community would have a comfortable accommodation with their families so that they can do their work efficiently.
