In Delta, festivities are not complete without Owoh Soup —Media personality, Matse Uwatse

Matse Uwatse Nnoli is a multiple award winning media personality, business woman, wife, mother and founder, MatseCooks.com. She shares her recipe on how to cook the delicious Owoh soup that is most cherished by the Itsekiri, Isokoh and Urhobo of Delta State. According to her, Owoh soup is mostly cooked during festive seasons, especially during Christmas and when giving out a daughter’s hand in marriage. “A marriage ceremony without this soup is questionable. This is the soup most guests look forward to as most modern homes hardly cook it”, she revealed. She dished out tips on how to make this sumptuous soup.

Ingredients

  • Beef
  • Ponmo
  • Smoked Fish
  • 1 cup periwinkles (optional)
  • Urheri
  • 1 teaspoon of crayfish
  • 2 cooking spoons of Urhobo native oil (or use the thick oil at the bottom of your gallon)
  • 3-4 handful of yellow garri (sieved)
  • 2 handful of starch
  • Native salt
  • Seasoning cubes
