Day of Girl-child: Group organises workshop for over 1,000 girls in Lagos

A group, Raising Women Initiative (RWI), has organised a transformative workshop for over 1,000 girls in Lagos State.

According to Comrade Pascal Candle, who disclosed this to journalists in a statement in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Monday, said the workshop is geared towards encouraging the girls to define their paths and pursue their dreams fearlessly.

He said the event took place at the Anglican Girls Grammar School and Queen’s College, both in Lagos State respectively on Friday.

The statement quoted the Executive Director of RWI and convener of the workshop, Dr. May Ikeora, while addressing the girls as saying “The choices you make in secondary school can greatly shape your future. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve greatness—you are the leaders of tomorrow.”

She also praised the teachers for their continuous dedication in raising strong, confident in young women.

“This is such a pivotal time in your life. Please be committed to your studies to achieve your set dreams.

Ikeora, used the event to appeal to government at level to prioritise girl child education in the country.

In their seperate remarks, the principals of the schools, Chief Mrs. Folasade Ogedengbe and Dr. Mrs. Oyindamola Obalori, expressed their gratitude, saying, “Workshops like these are vital to the growth of our students. They need role models who show them what is possible, and today’s event has done just that.”

They commended Ikeora, for organising the workshop in commemoration of this year International day of the girl child.

The workshop also feature presentation of awards to the principals for their relentless dedication to nurturing the next generation of women leaders.
