David Akpimegin: The visionary banker redefining financial inclusion in Nigeria

Beyond his role at Assurance Microfinance Bank, David Akpimegin is a serial entrepreneur and a certified professional banker with over two decades of experience. His impressive academic background includes a B.Sc in Accounting from the University of Abuja, an MBA from the University of Sunderland UK, and multiple master’s degrees from the University of South Wales UK and the University of Salford UK. Currently, he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Public Governance and Leadership at the University of Abuja, showcasing his commitment to lifelong learning and leadership development. Akpimegin’s influence extends beyond the boardroom. He has organized and featured in over 50 impactful programs and community outreach events, including financial literacy campaigns, women empowerment seminars, and youth leadership trainings. 

His dedication to community service and his expertise in financial services have earned him numerous accolades, including an Award of Excellence from the Abuja Leadership Centre, Tetfund Centre for Excellence in Public Governance and Leadership, University of Abuja. He was also nominated as a guest speaker for the 2024 Youth Leaders’ Clinic organized by the Abuja Leadership Centre and has been appointed as a strategic advisor to several cooperative societies.

Looking ahead, Akpimegin remains focused on expanding the reach and impact of Assurance Microfinance Bank. Upcoming plans include launching a Housing Support Initiative for committed staff, starting with a house in Gusape District, Abuja, and expanding into digital banking and cooperative services to deepen financial inclusion across Nigeria. Personally, he is dedicated to completing his Ph.D. and publishing research on leadership, discipline, and governance in microfinance institutions. David Akpimegin’s story is one of vision, dedication, and impact.
