Cyber security expert and founder of the artificial intelligence (AI) platform gemsbokGPT, Dr Charles Awuzie, has predicted some events that would likely occur this year in Nigeria and the world using engineered prompts in an AI tool.
The Nigerian South African-based businessman and founder of Gemsbok Group recently published the predictions on his verified Facebook page.
“My predictions are not rooted in spirituality but are outcomes of rigorous analysis of historical data coupled with advanced predictive analytics techniques,” he stated.
Awuzie made his predictions around climate change, technological advancements, social upheaval, arts, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, finance and cryptocurrency, politics, and religion.
He predicted possible disruptions in Nigerian climate which could lead to increased flooding, droughts, and resource scarcity that could trigger displacement, conflict, and food insecurity.
On technological advancements, he stated that there would be rapid adoption of AI and automation and that FinTech could disrupt traditional industries and employment landscapes.
On social upheaval, he added, “Growing discontent with economic inequality, corruption, and youth unemployment could lead to protests and social unrest.”
On the arts, Awuzie predicted that Nigerian music and culture will continue to gain international recognition and global domination, fostering a vibrant creative scene. He added that technology-driven artisanship − 3D printing, AI-powered art creation, and digital platforms − would democratise art production and distribution.
He advised Nigerians to focus on social issues, that “Artistry will increasingly address themes of climate change, social justice, and mental health.”
Furthermore, Awuzie predicted that in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, there would be an increased focus on preventative care and that public health initiatives would prioritise disease prevention and early intervention.
He added that telemedicine and digital health solutions would expand through mobile apps, and the development of locally-produced therapeutics would lead to more affordable and accessible medicines.
On finance, mobile money, and fintech innovation productions, he stated that mobile financial services will continue to expand, facilitating financial inclusion and economic growth and that Nigeria could become a leader in cryptocurrency adoption, with the potential risks and opportunities associated with it.
He advised Nigerians to focus on financial literacy, that “Initiatives to educate the population on financial management and responsible borrowing will be crucial.”
Politics was not left out in Awuzie’s AI-inspired predictions. He noted that the 2023 presidential election aftermath and potential challenges to its outcome could shape the political landscape. He further predicted an increase in populism and nationalist rhetoric and also increased youth participation in shaping political discourse and demanding accountability.
On religion, interfaith dialogue, and cooperation, he said growing understanding and collaboration between Muslim and Christian communities could foster religious tolerance. He added that the influence of Pentecostal churches and their focus on prosperity and healing could continue to spread.
“Technology will be increasingly used to modernise religious practices and also for religious education, outreach, and fundraising,” he added.
Awuzie noted that predicting the future, especially for a year as complex as 2024, is inherently challenging, adding, “These are not definitive predictions, but potential scenarios based on current trends, expert opinions, and existing data.”
The cyber security expert also used the AI tool to make similar predictions in the world using the same metrics and sectors he used for the Nigerian prediction of 2024 events.
