THE Federal Operation Unit Zone “C” (FOU), Owerri, Imo State of Nigeria Customs Service (NSC) arrested 47 suspects between January and June this year for various offences.
The Controller of Zone C, FOU, Alhaji Amajam Bukar, who disclosed this to newsmen during an interaction, said 27 of the suspects had been charged to court, while the remaining 20 suspects were facing interrogation.
According to him, within the period under review, seizures made by his men totaled 91, while the under payment recovered was to the sum of N225 million.
Answering reporters’ questions, the Customs boss said that in the month of June, the zone was able to record seizures with duty paid value of N372,233,523.
“We also made recovery of underpayment N12,040,949. This figure shows a remarkable increase over what we generated in May which is N91,868,700 for seizures and N10,646,477 for underpayment.
“Our work here in the zone will continually yield great benefits and result to the nation at large as we improve on our operations to increase revenue generation, security of lives and property, trade facilitation,” Bukar said.
