An operative of the Nigeria Customs Service (NSC) attached to the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A in Lagos, Yakubu Shuaibu, has been allegedly killed by suspected smugglers.
The incident, the Nigerian Tribune gathered happened at Akinrun village in Oja -Oda area of the State, after Customs officials had seized contraband goods.
The smugglers, according to report laid an ambush for the Customs operatives while they were returning to base and shot at them.

This resulted in the seat of Shuaibu, an Assistant Superintendent of Customs and left another officer identified as Joseph .S injured.
Confirming the incident, the FOU spokesman, Jerry Attah, said the deceased had been laid to rest according to Islamic injunction in Abeokuta.
“They were on a patrol; they had made seizure of smuggled rice while taking the rice to their based, they were ambushed. The officer was shot on Sunday, but he died today. He has been buried according to Islamic rites.
“No arrest has been made. The investigation is still on,” Attah said.
