The corpse of a man with unknown identity was on Wednesday found on a bad portion of Abeokuta-Ayetoro Road, Ogun State, at about 12:55am.
The cause of the death of the man was unknown, but he was suspected to be a cultist, as he had a gunshot injury and a machete cut on his head.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the story when contacted, told Saturday Tribune that the Divisional Police Officer, Ilupeju Division, received information that the deceased was pursued by suspected rival cult group members numbering about seven from a hotel in the town and hacked down at the scene where he was found.
The PPRO said: “Immediate action was taken and patrol teams from Ilupeju, Adigbe, Ibara, and Ops Mesa were led to the scene.
“The corpse was evacuated to General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, and deposited there.
“Combing and aggressive patrols of the area are being conducted to gather evidence and uncover the perpetrators of this dastardly act for prosecution.”
She stated that further developments would be communicated to the public.
