Despite numerous issues, the local government election in Calabar South has been labelled as peaceful. The last elections in the state took place in 2020.
According to our reporter on the ground, election materials were distributed to various wards in the company of security personnel and party representatives around 10 am.
However, many polling units, particularly in Ward 11, faced a significant shortage of electoral materials and a very low turnout of voters.
In Ward 11, materials designated for the Government Primary School, Uyi Effiong, were signed for and collected at the collation centre but were diverted to an unknown location, resulting in disenfranchisement for many voters.
Officials and agents from opposition parties expressed their concerns, questioning the election process and material distribution and accusing their counterparts of intentional misconduct.
Another significant irregularity noted was the incorrect numbering of the ballot papers in Calabar South.
The State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) is expected to release the results within the next 48 hours.
